Pedagogy - East Bridge College

What is the process of EBC adult distance learning higher education?

Learning can only be successful when we utilize the type of mental process that takes place when we extract information from a text, and the way we have to reprocess and express it in writing. Studying is an activity that entails reading and collecting data, engaging in concept hierarchy and interrelation finally leading to organization of data and writing accordingly. Classic memorization is no longer the process of learning as per the newly acquired thinking structures which help to increase our reasoning capacity and problem-solving skills. This intellectual improvement that you acquire is permanent and expanding. Learning at East Bridge College will not become a mere life training, it becomes a lifelong acquiring of newly acquired materials and skills.

Learning levels

In this lesson, we will refer to the Bloom's taxonomy – it is a classification frequently used to measure educational goals in the USA. EBC's distance learning higher education pedagogy paves the way to achieving the learning outcomes which are evaluated based on Reports, Project and Thesis.

LEARNING OUTCOMES - LEVELS

LEVEL 1. Knowledge and Comprehension

This is achieved as a result of the comprehensive reading and index preparation (Table of Contents): After thoroughly going through the textbooks assigned by the distance learning higher education program, the student will attain the knowledge to identify and distinguish the program's main ideas. The selected concepts will have to be classified and rearranged in order to prepare a coherent index or table of contents that will become the framework to achieve the required work. Therefore, this index will showcase the capability of the learner to understand the interrelationships, hierarchy, and overall meaning of the program's main elements.

LEVEL 2. Analysis, Synthesis and Development

This shows the path towards textbook analysis, content selection, and writing your first draft. The learner needs to study the given textbook and make notes of the selected extracts of the text contents as per the previously defined index (table of contents). The selected text extracts must meet the format requirements. On the other hand, the student needs to scour for information throughout the textbook several times to expand or make a gist of the information, when needed. This continuous process of adjustment of the text contents will help the student to categorize the information read to produce an appropriate first draft of assigned work. In other words, it is required that the reading material must be rearranged and put into a new written format; this process may require some rearrangement and at times change of graphic and numeric data into verbal and vice versa; along with its interpretation, explanation, and summary.

LEVEL 3. Preparation and Assessment of the Final Assignment

This results from the final production of the assignment: Report, project or thesis. After completing the first draft of the academic work, the student must again thoroughly go through the work to spot any possible mistakes. The material developed should reflect a logical style, content, and structure and reveal adequate knowledge of the subject. The final evaluation of the submitted work will be based upon the student's ability to study the different parts of the text and form a new and coherent format. The student may use illustrations, charts, and examples to describe the content.

LEVEL 4. Knowledge Application and Critical Thinking

This results from case study analysis, problem solving, conclusions, and application of professional experience. As an adult distance learning institute, EBC expects its students to: evaluate the learning material with his/her knowledge and understanding; express his/her view on the subject; demonstrate practical applications of the learned theoretical concepts; and explain those meaningfully in his/her written assignment. The individual judgments provided by the student must be clearly explained with valid proof. The projects and theses level of research work usually provide the students with critical thinking learning outcomes. There may also be reports that include conscious judgment based on clearly defined criteria from where the students draw conclusions from profound case study analyses.
